Worming

There are two main types of worm; roundworms and tapeworms.

These worms can affect the health of your dog and cat but roundworms can also be transmitted to humans, especially children, and cause blindness.

Tapeworms are contracted by dogs and cats by swallowing fleas or from eating the animals they hunt, such as mice and rabbits.

For these reasons it is important to worm regularly.

How often should you worm your dog and cat? If you use an efficient wormer the earliest your pet can contract worms again is one month. Thus if you have young children, or your pet is a good hunter, then monthly worming is sensible. Otherwise the recommendation is to deworm every 3 months.
