Microchipping
Animals can go missing and a microchip is a great way to help get them back. We often have animals brought in, having been in a road traffic accident. If they are microchipped then it is easy to get in contact with their owners. We have known cats climb into delivery vans and get whisked off to other parts of the country; microchipping ensured that they got back home.
A microchip is a small electronic device which provides permanent identification of your pet. Each chip has a different number.
It is injected underneath the skin of dogs and cats, usually in the top of the neck. Other sites are used in other animals such as birds and tortoises. Injecting the microchip only takes a few seconds.
The microchip is slightly bigger than a grain of rice.
All animals that need a pet passport have to be microchipped.
When your pet is microchipped a form is completed with your details; this information is forwarded to a national computer.
