Tyson’s story
Our Braveheart award for April goes to Tyson.. a cat who has most certainly used up one of his nine lives!
Tyson is a very lucky cat indeed! After surviving a scrape with a car he was brought into the surgery by his worried owners and seen by vet Marie. She could see that he was in shock and had obviously injured his leg quite badly but would need treatment and stabilisation before she could find out exactly what was going on!
Tyson was put onto a drip and given heavy duty painkillers and antibiotics while an x-ray was taken of his poorly leg
Marie found that Tyson had a really nasty fracture of his tibia (one of the bones in his hind leg) and this was not going to mend properly if left alone. Surgery was the only option.
After a comfortable night at the emergency hospital, Tyson returned in the morning with a very big day ahead of him
Tyson was made comfortable by the hospital team until vet Mark performed the surgery to fix the broken leg. He used a metal pin and surgical wire to hold the pieces of bone together close enough for them to heal.
It was a tricky procedure but went very well and Tyson had a remarkable recovery. He woke up from surgery very comfortable, purring and flirting with all the nurses! And soon became a big hit with everyone who was looking after him.
After just 2 days Tyson was sent home to recover fully under strict instructions to stay quiet!! He has coped very well with being bandaged up and having restricted exercise and has been in to have his dressings changed and checked. His dressings are now all off and he is looking forward to having that pin removed!
We all think that Tyson deserves this award because he has always been a very good boy whenever we needed to do anything with him in the hospital, we all just love him!
